Joseph Célestin Carrier

Father Joseph Célestin Carrier arrives from France to teach at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana in the mid 19th century. During the Civil War , he was appointed chaplain of General Grant , head of the Union Army . Few years later, he moved to St. Lawrence college here in Montreal to teach science , philosophy, English, etc. . He started to gather a large collection and will even open a museum in the college. Many of the objects he collected , including some indigenous artefacts, are now part of our collection. This exhibition both shows some of the objects he collected and tell the life of this exceptional man.
