VOLUNTEERS

For the benefit of all, the Museum gives its volunteers all the tools necessary for the
accomplishment of their tasks. No need for a membership or to pay for training.


 

BECOMING A VOLUNTEER AT THE MUSEUM

  1. To join a dynamic team who brings the Muserum to life;

  2. To share in the activities of an important cultural institution;

  3. To discover the world of arts and crafts through French Canadian traditions;

  4. To put your talents and creativity to the benefit of a patrimonial mission;

  5. To gain a diversified work experience in the field of museology;

  6. To develop your communication skills and a professional network.

Information session: September 14th, 6 pm at the Museum

  • Tour guide (6 positions)
    Welcome and captivate visitors of all ages by telling them about the daily life of the artisans of past centuries. Allow them to admire the works of the carpenter, the blacksmith, the potter, the weaver and other artisans.


  • Special project: bilingual guide for the exhibition Chicago in Glass/en Verre.
  • Artistic workshop animator (6 positions)
    Allow children to go from words to deeds by showing them the techniques used by our ancestors. Help them create works of art that will consolidate their knowledge and appreciation of crafts.

  • Assistant animator (6 positions)
    Weekdays: Assist the animator during school worshops. Position reserved for adult candidates learning french.
    Weekends: Assist the animator in birthday parties or the preparation of material. Position reserved for candidates 12 to 18 years old.

  • Front desk receptionist (4 positions)
    Greet and inform visitors, take incoming phone calls, use the cash register and manage the sales of the gift shop.
    Special project: desk clerk
    for the exhibition Chicago in Glass/en Verre.

  • Museum technician (2 positions)
    Participate in assembling and disassembling temporary exhibitions, assisting at the reserve and collaborate in different tasks related to conservation.
    Special project: assistant at the reserve for the transport of glass artwork.

  • Support staff (4 positions)
    Assist in the organization of special events: exhibition openings, fund raisers, Montreal Museum Day, Journées de la culture.
    Special projects:
    - Assistant at the Salon des métiers d'art for the glass sale.
    - Assistant at the opening of the exhibition
    Chicago in Glass/en Verre.
    - Assistant at the dialogue meeting with Judy Chicago.

  • Specialized staff (2 positions)
    Collaborate in development projects. Position reserved for candidates with a degree in museology, history, education, communications or arts.

Qualifications:

  • No experience necessary;
  • Interest in arts and history;
  • At ease with the public;
  • Good level of spoken french;
  • Enthousiastic, patient and dynamic.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 months to 1 year commitment depending on position;
  • Training of 3 to 30 hours depending on position;
  • Must be available 3 hours a week;
  • Meeting one day per month in the afternoon.

VOLUNTEER INTERNSHIPS

Each year, the Museum offers to students the opportunity to move from theory to practice by participating in the development of projects. To submit your application, fill and send the form with your resume.
